Get me a car and then we’ll talk

Third week in Casa Subang and I’m starting to get use to life here. I’m getting accustomed to sleeping in a none air-conditioned room and having a roommate. I can’t really complain much about the place since it is new and clean but how can I be me if I don’t complain, right? Anyway, there’s a question only my friends can answer. The thing that I hate most, no wait, hate is a strong word. Okay, the thing that I dislike most here is the traffic jam around Subang. I have to wake up at 6:15 a.m every morning cause the shuttle bus leaves at 7:30 a.m even though classes start at 9:00 a.m. All thanks to the damn traffic, it takes us at least half an hour to reach Taylor’s University College. If I was living next to my college, say like at Myplace Apartment, I could like wake up at say 8:30 a.m every morning. I would have saved 2 hours a day for much needed extra sleeping time. But according to my friends, Myplace is a crappy apartment with tons of insects. So, I guess I just have to give and take. Sacrificing my sleep for a cleaner and more comfortable house. We can’t have everything we want but we can make the best of what we have.

Talking bout making the best of what we have, I am trying really hard to make my small and overly congested room as homey as possible since I’ll be living here for 18 months. I think I did a fairly good job but it still needs much improvement. I intended to put up posters of my favourite bands on the empty walls of my room but there’s this stupid rule that prohibits us from sticking anything on the wall. Sucks, I know. Plus the clothes cabinet is way too small for a girl to store all her clothes in. My old cabinet was four times bigger than the one I have now, so imagine having to squeeze all my clothes into a tiny cramped space. I thought of getting some fancy decorative stuff for my room like cool photo frames, stuff toys and a bean bag, but the things is, my room is just way too small to fit in all those things. My study table is so small I am starting to worry about where the hell am I going to store all my books. Argh!!! I miss my old room and my air-con.

My very messy bed. As you can see, the wall is very empty and depressing.

Making the most out of all the available spaces in my room. Begs and dirty laundry under my bed, among other things.

My tiny study table, half of it being dominated by my printer.

Putting books on my book shelve to make me look more intellectual. Oh wait, is that anime?

The carpet outside the bathroom. I’m wondering why there are 3 pairs of slippers outside the bathroom instead of one. Are my housemates doing something naughty behind my back?  *cough* threesome*cough*
Even though Casa Subang isn’t exactly my dream house but it’s good enough. I have cool housemates and Summit Mall is just 5 minutes walk away. So far, everything has been good here but just don’t go anywhere alone. Don’t even go on the lift alone. I don’t want to be racist but there are quite a lot of Africans here and some of them aren’t nice. I’m saying this from a personal experience cause I got bugged by two African dudes on the lift when I was alone. Luckily, nothing happened to me other than being stuck with a scary memory on the lift. But seriously, don’t go anywhere alone especially if you’re a girl.
Okay, on to a lighter topic. I have a very cool English lecturer and a sarcastic but wildly entertaining legal studies lecturer. They really make me look forward to going to class everyday. Hopefully, this continues for the rest of my schooling time in Taylor’s and not just a gimmick the lecturers use to attract students and then torture them with unending boredom later on.
Oh, one last thing before I end this post. I WANT A CAR!!!! I miss driving besides having your own car will be so much more convinient than taking the public transport even though finding a parking spot would be hell but what the heck, I still want a car!

Mi Casa es Tu Casa

My house is your house. A concept I have adopted since moving into my college hostel. Living with a bunch of strangers was something I am getting more and more use to as I adjust to my hectic college life. There’s no more privacy (at least not as much as I use to have) and noisy teenagers coming in and out of my house is as usual as blinking my eyes. There’s no such thing as ‘this is my house’ anymore, your house is your housemates’ house and the house of your friends. Mi casa es tu casa. My house is your house and vice versa.

I first heard this Spanish phrase from a friend of my dad’s when I stayed at his house with his lovely family over the weekends. To make me feel welcome, he and his wife would say ‘mi casa, tu casa’. Who would have thought these few simple words would become something I have to live by for the rest of my college life. Adjusting to college life was hard but life’s hard so I just have to suck it up and make the best of it. The thing that I miss most besides the comfort of home, was the warmth of a family. Making friends is never an easy task and I’m not exactly the master at leaving a good first good impression. Luckily everyone I met were friendly and easy to talk to.

I guess everyone felt lonely and needed a friend. Everyone’s searching for comfort, for that sense of security so any sort interaction would be welcomed. Or is it just me? Anyway, I’m settling into college life and being away from my family pretty well. I mean, I still feel lively enough to blog.

By the way, I finally met my roommate 2 days ago. And she looks nothing like the roommate that I predicted. Well, first of all, she’s not square and she’s not a rock star (not that I know of) and she doesn’t shave her own head. So I can safely say that there won’t be much Britney drama going on in my life. Instead, she’s a nice girl and even comes from the same state as me!

I’ll update more about my new life in college and hopefully something interesting happens so I can blog about it.

Let’s be roomies!

Another two more days and I’ll be off to college. Whoo! I’m ecstatic but nervous at the same time cause everything is so unpredictable. I’m wondering how my room will look like, what the hell am I suppose to eat if I’m not allowed to cook and most of all who will my roommate be? Will she like me? What if she turns out to be a total jerk? What if she thinks I’m a total jerk? What if…what if…well the list can go on and on.

So since I have no way of predicting who my roommate will be, I compiled a short list of celebrities that I would like to room with, judging on their personality, hotness level and how much I’ll benefit from rooming with them.

1. Jess from The Veronicas

Jess is my favourite between the twins (obviously) cause she looks good playing the guitar and she looks like she could kick any bully’s ass if there’s trouble. Plus, I like her blazer.

2. Hayley Williams from Paramore

Love her songs. Love her voice. Love her hair. Love her T-shirts, too. Nuff’ said.

3. Ryan Ross from Panic! At The Disco

He’s super cuteness is all the reason I need as to why he’ll make a perfect roommate. Ok, other reasons include we get to spend lots of time together and get to know each other and eventually fall madly in love (haha, wishful thinking).

4. Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl)

What can I say? I have an obsession with Ed. He’s just so gorgeous. I won’t have a dull moment in college if we were roommates. Plus I get to watch him sleep like an angel every night, watch him do his homework, go through his dirty laundry and…Okay, I’ll stop here, I sound like a stalker.

5. Spongebob Squarepants

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob Squarepants! I know, I’m a dork but who could resist that cute face? Spongebob’s happy-go-lucky attitude can cheer me up any day. He’s nice, funny and can make some delicious looking crabby patties.

6. Gackt

Just because…drool

7. Britney Spears

I just want to figure her out. Plus the publicity I’ll be getting by rooming with her won’t hurt either. She can probably give me a few tips on how to shave my head if I have some incurable scalp condition or how to lip sing.

8. Bumblebee from Transformers

Who wouldn’t appreciate a roommate who could transform into a stunning mustang and drive you around? Since I won’t have a car in college, I figured the next best thing is to have a robot roomie who could double as your transport vehicle. Not to mention with the increasing fuel prices, bumblebee who I assume runs on its own energy of some sort and not fuel will come in handy in more ways than one.

So based on the list I made, I have come to the comclusion that my ideal roommate will be a square rock star, is both male and female, wears nice shirts and cute clazers, plays guitar, wears make-up, shaves own head, tends to go commando in public and can transform into a car.

Now, I’ll just have to wait and see if my roomie will fit into all the descriptions above.
